The Construction & Manufacturing Team supports all of Haskell’s delivery groups across the company and on projects throughout Mexico. The Construction & Manufacturing Team is responsible for providing field management personnel, from craft workers to Project Superintendents. The team also provides logistical support to team members, including but not limited to setting up per diem allowances, company trucks for superintendents, and coordinating team member arrivals to projects as needed. The Construction & Manufacturing Team offers ongoing training to our team members to support their development, from entry-level craft workers through in-person and online courses to apprenticeship programs in local jurisdictions. In this role, you will provide senior field leadership, serve as the primary interface with the owner’s on-site representatives, and supervise all Haskell personnel on site.

You will oversee the integration of multiple services provided by our field management and project management teams for Design-Build and EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) project delivery. You will achieve successful results in safety, quality, production, cost, and profitability in alignment with client/owner expectations and Haskell standards.

This position is achieved through a field career path; therefore, extensive travel and relocations are expected. The selected candidate can expect responsibilities on active projects to include facility construction as well as the installation and commissioning of client systems.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Review design documents produced by architects and engineers respectively:
  • Ensure documents clearly show the intended scope of work.
  • Improve constructability.
  • Minimize warranty-related issues/difficulties.
  • Provide pricing, scope of work, and scheduling input to the Project Director.
  • Plan, sequence, and schedule the project with input from the Superintendent and subcontractors. Manage the project schedule, conduct job site meetings, and prepare updated schedules.
  • Collaborate with the BIM Integration Manager on the development of a 3D BIM model.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of all construction equipment and systems, including manufacturing or process systems provided by the owner or installed by Haskell.
  • Maintain a complete understanding of the contract terms with the owner/client, with special attention to EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) performance commitments.
  • Serve as the daily point of contact with the client representative at the job site.
  • Pre-plan and schedule job site activities with Superintendents and Project Managers as needed.
  • Provide Superintendents with input on construction techniques and methods, material handling, material storage, manpower sizing and deployment, equipment requirements, and task sequencing.
  • Interview, hire, and train personnel. Responsible for staff performance and development.
  • Administer company policies and procedures fairly and consistently.
  • Regularly communicate and report project activity to the Project Director.
  • Report, verify, and document for management any additional work requested by the client/owner caused by job conditions beyond the original estimate or contract documents.
  • Verify valid/current insurance for all companies on site.
  • Inspect the quality of both company-performed work and subcontractor work, and ensure compliance with engineering drawings.
  • Resolve quality assurance deficiencies.
  • Provide engineers and Project Managers with input on planning and execution of Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
  • Responsible for overall safety and ensuring standards are met:
  • Initiate all job site safety and accident prevention efforts.
  • Investigate and report all accidents.
  • Conduct weekly safety meetings and inspections for submission.
  • Conduct new employee safety orientation using The Haskell Company Safe Practices Code.
  • Ensure proper safety procedures are implemented on site, including physical environment, perimeter, and proprietary information protection.
  • Maintain good community relations and clearly identify job sites with properly placed company signage according to The Haskell Company signage standards.
  • Comply with contract specifications, purchase orders, construction signatures, and permitting agencies for required inspections.
  • Generate Requests for Information (RFIs) and applicable project correspondence.
  • Assume budget responsibility for labor costs, including overhead, and miscellaneous purchases such as concrete, lumber, and equipment rentals.
  • Review and approve monthly cost reports and summary cost reports prepared by the on-site Project Manager.
  • Review the monthly cost report and summary cost report with the Construction Director and Group Project Director.
  • Prepare contingency plans for weather events and/or other causes that may require emergency project shutdown.
  • Work with the Construction Director and construction staff to establish workforce organization, including Superintendent requirements and Permanent Craft Employee (PCE) staffing.
  • Manage client relationships, including progress meetings, correspondence, periodic reports, change orders, and responses to client inquiries.
  • Oversee preparation of payment applications and other required project invoices. Maximize project cash flow through billing and collections.
  • Support Project Managers in managing subcontractor and vendor performance issues, including documentation, notices of default, and replacement if necessary.
  • Review and monitor project progress, quality, and safety; work with the Superintendent and make necessary corrections to comply with contract requirements and company policies and procedures.
  • Assist in developing construction staff through mentoring and on-the-job training.
  • Manage project commissioning, closeout, and warranty work.
Education / Experience:

Completed Bachelor’s degree with certificate/diploma in Engineering from an accredited institution, as well as a valid professional license or professional registration.

Candidates without a professional degree may be considered if they have significant related industry experience.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, Licenses, and Certifications:
  • Excellent leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and verbal communication skills, including professional diplomacy, technical communication, and personnel management.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to independently plan, lead, and manage the entire field operation, including all aspects of integrated systems.
  • Ability to effectively provide verbal and written instructions to project staff, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Exceptional ability to interact with clients, subcontractors, and customers at all levels.
  • Ability to collaborate with others to achieve organizational goals and identify and resolve problems.
  • Ability to retrieve information from technical sources and communicate complex project issues to subject matter experts, engineers, and manufacturers.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification or equivalent.
  • Current OSHA 10-hour course completed within the last three years.

Environmental Factors and/or Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, this position requires ordinary mobility skills sufficient to travel to other locations, as well as the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium-weight objects (10–50 pounds). Good hand-eye coordination and arm, hand, and finger dexterity are required, including the ability to grasp, as well as visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment, and read application/form information. The employee is frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
