Sheet Metal Local 2 Accepting online Apprentices applications
Sheet metal workers are involved with the applications of all types of sheet metal. Job opportunities are diverse and include fabrication, installation, and maintenance of heating, air conditioning, and ventilating systems, as well as gutters, roofing, siding, or food service equipment. Architectural sheet metal workers fabricate and install metal ornamentation, columns, skylights, signs, and metal ceilings that add beauty to commercial and residential buildings. Type of work: Architectural Sheet Metal—makes metal ornamentation, columns, skylights, signs, metal ceilings, and downspouts Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning—design, fabricate and install. Testing, Adjusting and Balancing—fine tuning and maintaining HVAC components. Use of computers—to fabricate sheet metal products and troubleshoot HVAC systems. Health, Safety, and Environmental training. Food and Beverage—Stainless steel fabrication and installation in restaurants, cafeterias, etc. Welding—fusing different types of metal using the latest technological processes. Service Work—installing, maintaining and repair of equipment that conditions air. Siding and decking—rigging and installation of building components relating to floors and walls.
SMART Local Union No. 2 encompasses the greater Kansas City metropolitan area, St. Joseph and includes 39 counties in Missouri, as well as 60 counties in Kansas, the cities of Topeka, Lawrence, Pittsburg and Coffeyville.

Application Instructions
1. The $50 fee for applicant testing must be paid when the application is submitted. You can click here to pay online now. A link to pay online will also be emailed to you after submitting this form. The test fee is nonrefundable.
2. Proof of age (driver’s license or birth certificate) must be turned in with the application (applicants must be 18 years of age).
3. You will be given a date, time, and location for your test via email once we receive your application and online payment confirmation.
4. You must receive a passing score on your test to be eligible for an interview with the apprentice committee.
5. You will receive a letter via mail letting you know the results of your test (pass or fail). If you do not receive your results within 2 weeks of your test date it is your responsibility to call our office to check in (816-353-0038).
6. Applicants receiving a passing score on their test will be scheduled for an interview.
7. You will be notified via email of the date and time for your interview unless you request that this be sent to you by certified mail. It is the applicant’s responsibility to make sure the apprentice office always has your most current email and address.
8. Applicants who do not receive a passing score on their test will be automatically disqualified.
9. Applicants who do not attend their scheduled interview will be automatically disqualified.
10. Applicants whose interview score is below 70% will be automatically disqualified.
