Ironworkers Local 9- Niagara Falls, NY
The Iron Workers Joint Apprenticeship Committee of Niagara County is presently accepting applications for training positions in the occupation of Iron Worker. If you are interested in taking advantage of this training opportunity and meet the following qualifications, you are eligible to apply. The result of the process is to establish an eligibility list, from which Apprentices will be selected as needed.
Apprenticeship classes normally held at the Union Hall located at: 412 39th St., Niagara Falls, NY 14303
Our 4 year apprenticeship program includes:
Introduction- safety and what is expected of new recruits on day 1.
History- the history of the Ironworkers International and the labor movement.
Math- basic math skills for the construction industry.
Welding/Burning- stick, wire feed, tig, A WS and DOT certification, OXY and ACT burning.
Structural- erection of structural steel.
Rigging- all aspects of rigging.
Pre-engineered buildings- erection of pre-engineered buildings.
Sheeting- installation of sheeting and decking.
Fencing- installation of commercial fence.
Precast installation- unloading and installing precast.
Blue print- understanding blue prints for all types of construction.
Foreman training- all apprentices at end of 4 years take foreman training.
Millwright class- installation of motors, gears and pulleys. General millwright work.
Survival of the fittest- attitude class, keeping apprentices and journeyman on track to help contractors be competitive.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Age - Applicants shall not be ·less than eighteen (18) years of age. Applicants shall be required to provide proof of age.
- Education - A high school diploma or GED equivalency is required. Applicant must provide an official transcript(s) for high school and post high school education and training. All GED records must be submitted if applicable. A transcript of school records shall support satisfactory grades in specific courses, for example mathematics, mechanical drawing, etc. Points based on these grades may be granted in the overall evaluation at the time of the interview.
- Applicants must submit a DD-214 to verify military training and/or experience if they are a 1veteran and wish to receive consideration for such training/experience.
- Physical - Applicants will be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the apprenticeship program, with or without a reasonable accommodation, and without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of the individual or others. It shall be mandatory on the part of each apprentice to .present a doctor's certificate as evidence of physical fitness sufficient to perform the work of the trade.Applicants will be subject to a physical agility or fitness test, or screened for the current illegal use of drugs or both on acceptance into the program and prior to being employed.
- Aptitude Test - Aptitude test is not a requirement but individual locals may elect to have an aptitude test as part of the selection process.
- Legal Residence - All applicants for apprenticeship must be able to prove they are legally eligible to work in the United States.
