WHAT IS AN APPRENTICESHIP?
Pipe trades apprenticeships provide training to develop highly skilled workers who will meet the rigorous demands of the pipe trades industry. Apprentices EARN WHILE THEY LEARN the skills that are required to succeed through ON THE JOB TRAINING and related CLASSROOM TECHNICAL TRAINING.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF AN APPRENTICESHIP?
Apprentices earn a paycheck while training on the job and the rate of pay increases regularly through the apprenticeship as they learn new skills.
Apprenticeship training emphasizes high standards of skill and instructional quality. Apprenticeship is widely recognized as the best method of training skilled craft workers.
HOW DOES AN APPRENTICESHIP WORK?
Pipe Trades Apprentices learn their trade through both on the job, hands on training and classroom technical training.
Pipe trades practical skills are learned while working under the supervision of a journey-level trades person. Technical aspects of the pipe trades are learned while attending evening classroom training.
After completion of an apprenticeship program, apprentices are advanced to journey-level status with the additional benefit of nationwide mobility at journey level scale.
Requirements

Must be 18 years of age or older, have a high school diploma or GED, valid driver's license and social security card. You must present your driver's license and social security card in order to fill out an application. We will also need your birth certificate, high school diploma and school transcripts. The transcripts can be ordered from your Board of Education in the county in which you attended school. If you attended any post secondary schools it is good to get transcripts for that as well. If you have a GED, you need to order transcripts from the facility where you took your GED. As for your high school diploma, that is the only thing in the list that is not necessary but we like to have it. REMEMBER . . . transcripts have to come to us sealed from the facility!
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I APPLY FOR AN APPRENTICESHIP
Demand for pipe trade workers is dependent on market conditions and the amount of work being performed by local area contractors. An Apprenticeship Training Committee interviews apprentice applicants when there is a need in the piping industry for new apprentices.
Selection of new apprentices is based on the applicant's level of relevant training, education, and related work experience.
HOW LONG DOES A PIPE TRADES APPRENTICESHIP LAST?
A pipe trades apprenticeship is five years. Credit for related previous work experience may be granted at the discretion of the Apprenticeship Training Committee.
