Inside Wireman Apprentice

The RJATC provides the ultimate "earn while you learn" apprenticeship training program. As an apprentice, you will be assigned to one of our electrical contractors, earning a progressively increasing hourly wage (plus benefits" as you successfully gain more skills and technical knowledge in the electrical industry.


Inside Wireman install and maintain all of the various types of electrical systems found in commercial and industrial facilities. Equipment used may include lighting, receptacles, motors, heating equipment, and systems that control the operation of all of a facility's energy usage.

The Inside Wireman installs conduit systems that contain wire from the motor control centers panelboards to all of the equipment that uses electricity. Those conduits may contain power cables or control cables. Many of the conduit systems are exposed and must be installed to exacting standards using neat and workmanlike craftsmanship.

The work of an Inside Wireman can vary. One day the Inside Wireman could be installing a Fire Alarm System or Security System in high rise buildings and the next day he or she could be installing conduit in a ditch on the outside of the building. Inside Wiremen also install electrical systems in industrial facilities such as chemical plants, power plants, chip manufacturing facilities and automobile plants. Each type of installation has specific electrical needs and systems to support those needs.

This is a rigorous four-year in-depth post-secondary electrical training program.  Apprentices are provided on-the-job training on actual construction sites during the day (with pay and benefits) and attend class every other week from 7:30 am-3:30 pm to learn the required electrical concepts, theories and applications necessary to develop apprentices into top performing journey workers and professional union members. rade.  In order to graduate, an apprentice must complete 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and successfully complete 900 hours of related instruction with an average of 75% or above.   

As of March 1st 2026, the hourly pay rate for Inside Wireman Journeyperson's = $39.35 per hour *plus benefits.

1st Period $20.86 hr. *

2nd Period $22.82 hr.*

3rd Period $23.61 hr.*

4th Period $25.97 hr.*

5th Period $28.33 hr.*

6th Period $31.48 hr.*


Requirements

Direct Interview - Applicants who have completed at least three years of active military service, with a discharge under honorable conditions within five years of the application date or completed at least six years reserve who are still serving or have an honorable dischare within two years of the application date or Applicants who have been honorably discharged from the military and have completed military technical training school in a MOS applicable to the commercial and/or industrial electrical construction industry and can document a minimum of two years of military experience in that MOS within five years of the date of application. These individuals may also qualify for direct entry.
