Corinth/Tupelo Electrical JATC

Corinth , MS

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) is a prominent labor union representing workers in the electrical industry. Founded in 1891, it is one of the largest and most diverse unions in North America. IBEW members work across various sectors of the electrical field. In construction, electricians install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in buildings, from residential homes to large commercial and industrial facilities. They work with power distribution systems, lighting, and complex control systems. The union also represents workers in utilities, including those who maintain power generation facilities and electrical grids. Linemen, who install and repair power lines, are a crucial part of this workforce. IBEW's scope extends to manufacturing, where members produce electrical equipment and components. In telecommunications, they install and maintain communication systems, including telephone, cable, and fiber optic networks. The union covers other specialized areas such as railroad signal workers, broadcast technicians, and electrical workers in the automotive and shipbuilding industries. IBEW places a strong emphasis on apprenticeship and training programs, ensuring its members stay current with rapidly evolving technologies in the electrical field. The union advocates for fair wages, workplace safety, and comprehensive benefits for its diverse membership across the United States and Canada, playing a vital role in maintaining high standards in electrical work across various industries.

Corinth/Tupelo JATC Apprenticeship

Corinth/Tupelo Electrical JATC provides some of the highest quality training to those interested in a career in the various fields within the electrical industry. We train apprentices to become an Inside Journeyman Wireman. Inside Journeyman Wireman are electrical workers who install power, lighting, controls and other electrical equipment in commercial and industrial buildings. In addition to receiving skill training on the job, our apprentices are provided trade related classroom training that produces competency and pride that lead to true craftmanship.

APPRENTICE TRAINING PROGRAM INFORMATION

The CJATC Inside Wireman apprenticeship training program is
jointly sponsored by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW)
and the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA). This five year
apprenticeship program is a combination of related classroom instruction and
on-the-job training (OJT).

Participants in this program earn wages and benefits while
learning the skills needed for a trade in the electrical industry. Inside
Wireman apprentices primarily perform electrical construction work in
commercial and industrial settings; accumulating a minimum of 8,000 OJT hours
during their apprenticeship. Classroom instruction consists of one (1) session
a week and most sessions are three (3) hours in duration; totaling 720 hours of
classroom instruction throughout the program.

A working knowledge of algebra is necessary to keep pace
with the program curriculum. Apprenticeship classes generally follow the Alcorn
County School system as to the date school starts, holidays observed and
vacations. Participation is mandatory in all scheduled related classroom
instruction and on-the-job training assignments. Upon completion of this
program you will have a very rewarding career as an IBEW journeyman
electrician.

Low Cost

Since apprentice training is sponsored by IBEW Local Union
852 and NECA, our apprentices have a low financial investment
toward their electrical career.

Hand Tools – the cost is about $350 if all items on the
apprentice tool list are needed.

Textbooks/Materials – the cost averages around $750 per
school year; some years higher; some lower.

BENEFITS FROM DAY 1

In addition to their wages, our apprentices receive health
