Apprentice Roofer (Commercial)
The Apprentice Roofer supports roofing crews by performing basic to intermediate roofing tasks under supervision while developing hands-on trade skills and commercial roofing knowledge. This role is designed for individuals learning the roofing trade through on-the-job experience and training opportunities while progressing toward increased responsibility and advancement opportunities. This position is part of a union workforce and employees are expected to comply with applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) requirements, company policies, safety standards, and training expectations.

What You’ll Do- Assist with jobsite setup, preparation, and teardown
- Perform basic roofing installation tasks including insulation placement, coverboard installation, membrane handling, fastening, trims, coping cap, reglet, and counter flashing
- Carry, stage, and organize materials, tools, and equipment on the jobsite and roof
- Support experienced roofers with installation, preparation, cleanup, and material handling tasks
- Use hand and power tools safely and effectively
- Learn and identify roofing tools, materials, terminology, and system components
- Assist with material layout and staging activities
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Follow company safety rules, PPE requirements, and fall protection procedures
- Participate in safety meetings and hazard recognition activities
- Support quality installation standards and supervisor direction
- Exercise Stop-Work Authority to prevent serious safety violations and protect employees, property, and the worksite
- Handle equipment, tools, and materials responsibly while maintaining jobsite housekeeping expectations
- Dispatched through Roofers & Waterproofers Union Local 81 apprenticeship program with Apprentice “B” level classification
- No prior roofing experience required
- Commercial roofing experience or construction training preferred
- OSHA 10 certification preferred
- Basic understanding of workplace safety and construction practices preferred
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift, carry, and move roofing materials and equipment
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights
- Dependable work ethic and willingness to learn and grow
Must report to assigned jobsites as directed, including travel to projects outside the local area and occasional overnight, out-of-town, or out-of-state assignments based on project and business needs and applicable collective bargaining agreement provisions.
